Citronella has a refreshing and cleansing nature. It is renowned for its insect repelling ability, but has a wealth of home and medicinal properties.
Although it is unclear when citronella was first used, it has many folk and traditional uses in the home, personal hygiene and medicine.
Originally a native to Sri Lanka, the oil is a product of the grass, fresh or dried. However it is also cultivated in a number of other tropical areas worldwide, including Java, Vietnam and Central America. Many other species of this grass exist.
Insect Repellent - particularly well known for its mosquito repelling properties.
Can be used on different skin types when diluted (follow standard dilution guidelines) but be watchful of an allergic reaction (see below). It is always worth testing on a small area first.
Potential Adverse Effects
Allergic reaction to the oil may occur if it is mixed with other essential oils. Check what other oils are mixed with the Citronella prior to use on the skin.
